Peter Cruickshank

     Peter grew up in Hanover, attending Dawnview Public School, James A. Magee Community School and John Diefenbaker Secondary School. He left Hanover to further his education at Queen’s University in Kingston where he studied languages and literature, majoring in Classical Studies. He continued these studies at McMaster University in Hamilton where he completed his Master’s degree. Finally, Peter began his legal studies at the University of Western Ontario, in London, where he earned his law degree in 2011.


     While studying law at the University of Western Ontario, Peter was a member of various student organizations aimed at providing legal assistance to the community. As a member of Pro Bono Students Canada, Peter provided legal research for non-profit organizations. As a member of the first-ever Western Intellectual Property Clinic, Peter performed research and drafted advice on topics touching copyright, patents and trademarks. Finally, as a member of the Family Law Clinic, Peter drafted pleadings for low-income parties, in family law proceedings.


     After completing law school, Peter returned to Hanover to complete his articling requirements at Hicks & Hicks and was called to the Ontario Bar in the fall of 2012. Peter is now practicing as a lawyer at Hicks & Hicks, concentrating in the areas of family Law, criminal law and real estate. Peter is willing to accept Criminal Legal Aid certificates for matters being dealt with in the Walkerton court if his calendar permits.
